Kathleen Richardson-Mauro

Kathy has owned and operated five small companies in thirty-plus years, and she has successfully assisted over 150 small business owners in identifying and achieving their business-transition goals. As an entrepreneur herself, she has a personal understanding of business-ownership challenges and can empathize with the business owner.

Her professional career began in the banking industry in the 1970s, and she later worked in different capacities within the accounting profession. Her passion for helping people led her to enter financial planning, and in 1992, she became a certified financial planner (CFP) and opened a fee-only financial planning firm as a registered investment advisor (RIA) with a focus on estate planning. In early 2000, she entered the field of mergers and acquisitions, utilizing the combination of her professional experiences. Her passion for assisting people evolved further in 2007 by broadening her focus from the purely transactional world to the field of planning business-ownership transitions.

Kathleen’s passion for assisting the owners of privately held businesses continues today. Her goal is to help them determine, plan, and execute their own successful exit strategies, allowing them to live life on their terms. She works alongside business owners who are searching for unbiased assistance in determining which transition strategies will meet their individual needs. By being highly educated and experienced in this emerging profession, she guides business owners in successfully planning these business transitions while maximizing the wealth that is trapped in, most likely, their largest asset. Her unique background and skill set enable her to assist the owners in a holistic and client-centered manner that not only considers all of the complex financial aspects of comprehensive transition planning but also takes into consideration the often-overlooked personal preparation that is required for a successful transition.

Kathleen is a graduate of the College of Financial Planning in Denver, CO, a certified merger and acquisition advisor (CM&AA), a professional family business advisor (FBA), a certified business intermediary (CBI), and a certified business exit consultant (CBEC). Most recently, she served on the certification committee for the development of the CBEC program, and she will serve on the Alliance of Mergers & Acquisition Advisors Education Committee in 2013.
